STAN CO FAIR FEATURED ON DISNEY+ NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SHOW!

Turlock, CA (December 19, 2019) – The Stanislaus County Fair has once again made national coverage by being chosen to be featured on the National Geographic show The World According to Jeff Goldblum.

After extensive research the Disney+ network, which owns National Geographic, chose the Stanislaus County Fair’s Destruction Derby Motorhome event to be featured in the upcoming episode “RVs.”  The reality series originally developed at National Geographic and now premiering as part of the initial rollout of the Disney+ streaming service, will release the “RVs” episode on December 27, 2019.  The fair was also featured on the Food Network Chanel Carnival Eats in 2014.

“We were thrilled to host Jeff Goldblum and the National Geographic production team at our Fairgrounds for the 2019 Fair,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “It is always an honor to show the pride of our fair, our history, and our community on a national level.”

Alkhas said the production team was on grounds for one full day shooting the Destruction Derby Motorhome heat on Tuesday, July 16, 2019.  The Turlock Lions Club, who is the promoter of the Derby events at the fair, provided specific motorhomes for Goldblum to ride in and interviewed Greg Mathews, whose family has entered the Derby for generations.

According to Disney+ website, the series follows Goldblum, in which he explores the world. He does this by covering topics such as video games, ice-creams and sneakers by chatting with influencers and experts with broad knowledge and experience in these particular subjects.  The “RVs” episode rolls into the RV capital of the world to investigate the unique mode of transport and the lifestyle that goes with it. According to Disney+ website, Goldblum witnesses the RV Derby summer show; tours an RV manufacturing factory; and rides with a family who has chosen to live permanently on the road.

“I’m very curious, but I think curiosity is our birthright,” Goldblum said in an interview with USA Today. “I have a 4-year-old boy and a 2-year-old boy, and I don’t think it’s just my genes. I think kids and all sapiens must be curious; we need it to survive.”

Tastes of the Valley Generates $49,000 in Donations!

Tastes of the Valley Generates over $49,000 for Friends of the Fair and Stan State Agriculture Program

Turlock, CA (December 19, 2019) – Now in its 17th year as a flourishing community event, the Tastes of the Valley annual fundraiser resulted in over $49,000 donation benefitting students in the Stan State Agriculture Program and Stanislaus Friends of the Fair Foundation.

Started by the Agriculture Program in 2003, Tastes of the Valley enjoys a strong partnership with the Stanislaus Friends of the Fair Foundation, which supports agriculture education. Funds raised by the event are shared by the Stan State Agriculture Program and Stanislaus Friends of the Fair Foundation.

“As supporters of the ag community, it is imperative that we support our future ag leaders and our partnership with Stan State’s Agriculture Program has been a wonderful way to give back to our community,” said Matt Cranford, chief executive officer of Stanislaus County Fair.

Proceeds from the event resulted in $25,000 fund scholarships for low-income and first-generation college students at Stan State pursuing careers in agriculture.

“In addition to scholarships, the funds raised by the event also strengthen the capacity of our Agriculture Program to support the next generation of young leaders in the agriculture industry through a variety of hands-on activities, professional development events and leadership development activities in the Agriculture Ambassadors student organization,” said Oluwarotimi Odeh, professor and Rolland Starn Endowed Chair of Agriculture at Stan State.

The 2019 Tastes of the Valley, held Oct. 3 at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, featured the wares of wineries and brewers, cheesemakers and restauranteurs from around the region, in addition to live and silent auctions.

“We extend our sincere thanks to all the individual and corporate donors and sponsors, and welcome new partners to join us in investing in our students,” Odeh said. “They are the future of the agriculture industry and future leaders of our communities.”

Turlock, CA (June 27, 2019) – Don’t miss out on the exciting competitions and events hosted by the Floriculture department this year at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds.
Floriculture is so much more than just floral arrangements and potted plants. There is a huge umbrella of Floriculture including: small engines, plant science, and even the marketing of plants!
“For four years, I participated in Future Farmers of America (FFA) and didn’t know much about Floriculture. It wasn’t until my senior year of high school that I learned about plant science and found my true passion,” said Lauren Cabral, MJC Plant Science Major. “If only I knew about plant science earlier, who knows where I could have been by now.”
Come join members of the area as they compete in our very own “Chopped Gone Floral” competition on Saturday, July 13th, 2019 at 1 p.m. Similar to the cooking show, Chopped, on Food Network, the contestants will have 45 mins to complete a floral arrangement that will be judged. The first-place winner will receive a cash prize of $200! We highly encourage you come check out this entertaining event sponsored by Fresh Ideas Floral Company.
In addition, Floriculture will be hosting a Small Engines competition on Friday, July 19th, 2019 starting at 5:30 p.m. Three teams will have to fix a “bug” in their small engine, a piece of landscape equipment. First team to get their engine started will be the winner!

We want to include the thoughts and opinions of others and see what our community finds to be interesting. There is so much to be a part of when it comes to floriculture and all that it entails. It’s all about finding your niche. It is not just for those apart of a garden club or any specific program, anyone can do it and we encourage you to come and find out more!
