Don’t have a cow – it’s Ag in the Class

Turlock, CA (March 28, 2019) – The Stanislaus County Fair is partnering with local

pre-school through fifth-grade classes, as well as after school programs to teach students about the importance of dairy and dairy cattle in the community.

Specifically-developed curriculum kits will assist teachers with instructing students about dairy and dairy cattle. The kits will be available starting Monday, April 1st at the Fair’s Exhibit Office located at 900 N. Broadway, Turlock in the front office. Kits may be picked up or turned in Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Please note: entry information must be completed and submitted before receiving the project kits. Stay Young for the High Valley at the Stanislaus County Fair

Turlock, CA (March 21, 2019) —High Valley is headed to the Central Valley as the opening act for the 2019 Stanislaus County Fair.

High Valley will be performing Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Stanislaus County Fair on the Coors Light Variety Free Stage. The concert will be hosted by KAT Country 103 and will begin at 8:30 p.m. The concert is free with the price of Fair admission.

“This country duo family band is excited to share their music with our Fair guests,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “It will be a fun-filled show for fans of all ages.”

Country fans are no strangers to the uncanny musical connection of a family band, but they’ve never heard anything like the duo High Valley–and that’s simply because brothers Brad, and Curtis Rempel never knew how country was “supposed” to sound. Growing up in La Crete, Alberta —more than 2,500 miles from where they now live in Music City —Brad and Curtis were completely cut off from the world of pop culture throughout their early lives. While their upbringing didn’t exactly acquaint them with the Billboard 100, it’s that insulation that helped cement their musical ideals and love of simple, classic country, allowing High Valley’s music to feel simultaneously fresh and timeless.

High Valley learned to become skilled digital citizens, building an avid fan base that is actively involved in selecting the duo’s songs through the High Valley app and connecting with each other via social media. As a result, they have amassed more than 43 million song streams worldwide –including 22 million for first single “Make You Mine. Likewise, they are the first country act to broadcast live on Twitch.TV in the United States and their song “Young Forever” scored placement on EA Sports’ Madden NFL 17 Soundtrack. The band has been selected for “Ones to Watch” recognition by Rolling Stone Country, Spotify, Pandora, CMT and Taste of Country. And they’ve been profiled on CBS This Morning for their unique and inspiring story and performed on NBC’s Today Show.

The Rempel brothers have already scored six Top 10s, three Gold certifications, played to 15,000 seat arenas opening for Shania Twain and earned multiple awards show wins –including Canadian CMA Group of the Year. And now with their major label debut, a fall tour with Martina McBride and a headlining U.K. trek on the way, it’s true that High Valley inhabit a much different world today than the one they were raised in. But some things remain the same, and that is the central theme of one of the album’s most powerful tracks, the hard-charging backroad rocker, “I Ain’t Changin’.”

All Poultry Shows Canceled

Turlock, CA (March 19, 2019) – Stanislaus County Fair officials announced on Monday, March 18, 2019 after the board meeting to cancel all poultry shows for the 2019 Fair livestock program.

The decision comes after California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) and USDA recommended all Fairs evaluate their poultry shows due to Virulent Newcastle Disease (vND) that seems to be impacting a narrow population of poultry, making some poultry gatherings higher risk than others. CDFA issued a document from the California State Veterinarian titled “Guidance Document: Risk Evaluation for Poultry Exhibition Managers” to provide poultry shows and exhibitions criteria to help evaluate the risk.

“In the best interests of our community and the poultry industry, we have decided to cancel our poultry show for 2019,” said Matt Cranford, chief executive officer for the Stanislaus County Fair. “We understand the impact this decision will have on the youth in our livestock program and wish we had other alternatives. But in accordance with recommendations by CDFA, we will have to postpone our show and hope that this disease is quickly eradicated in our area.”

According to CDFA, the Newcastle Disease is a virus that affects birds and spreads quickly which causes high mortality, especially in chickens. It has been found in pigeons and pet birds and it only takes several hundred virus particles to infect poultry, feathers can spread it, other fomites (e.g. clothing, shoes, vehicles, equipment, etc.). Birds can look healthy, but still be shedding the virus.

Win a BBQ Party!

Turlock, CA (March 14, 2019) –Stanislaus County Fair’s Kids Club Educational Program has once again partnered with the Turlock Unified School District (TUSD) child nutritional program, Real.Fresh. to promote healthy eating throughout the summer and school year.

This is the fifth year the Stanislaus County Fair has partnered with TUSD to launch the 20/20 Fruit & Veggie Contest. The contest, which begins on Monday, March 18th, was created to reward students for their nutritional choices. Elementary students will keep track of their healthy eating choices by using punch cards. The intention of the partnership is to support healthy food choices by promoting access to fruits and vegetables.

“Our kids club program educates our children on agriculture and how our county provides organic food options from our local farmers,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “With a partnership involving our Kids Club and TUSD’s child nutrition program, we can successfully introduce them to making innovative approaches to nutritional and tasty choices.”

Over the span of 20 days, students who choose one fruit or vegetable option for their lunch will receive a punch on their punch cards. Once the card is complete, it will be entered into a grand prize drawing. Four students from each elementary school in the Turlock Unified School District will be randomly selected to win either a Stanislaus County Fair Family 4-Pack (which includes ride tickets), a bicycle, or other great prizes. The school with the most Stanislaus County Fair Kids Club sign ups will get a BBQ party at the end of the year.

“Together, the Stanislaus County Fair and TUSD can push towards a healthier diet and overall lifestyle for our children,” said Scott Soiseth, Director of Child Nutrition at TUSD. “It’s never too soon to introduce them to nutritional diets – in fact, there is no better time than now.”

TUSD’s child nutritional program, Real.Fresh., is committed to providing nutritional information that promotes children’s health by supporting healthy eating habits, as well as being physically active.  TUSD provides nutritional information on all menus and works hard on having their website include resources that support healthy food choices through increased consumption of fruits and vegetables. TUSD’s partnership with the Kids Club program at the Stanislaus County Fair encourages students to continue making healthy food choices in the summer – and throughout their lives.

Children that are registered in the Kids Club program will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills at the Fair! By filling out a passport book used to travel around the Fairgrounds, kids will be answering math, science, art, livestock and agriculture-related questions. Once they finish answering all their passport questions, the kids can turn in the passport to the Information Booth at the Fair for a chance to win (4) pack Legoland tickets from KAT Country 103.  Kids Club members will also receive a tote bag with fun items from our sponsors, as well as two carnival ride tickets. Parents can sign up their kids now at https://stancofair.com/kidsclub/.
